What it was costing them.
Two thousand plant lines and no catalogue online, because writing a description for each one was a fortnight of somebody's life every season.
The most common phone call was whether a plant was in stock, answered by walking out to the polytunnel to look.
Nothing they sold appeared in a search, so the centre was invisible to anybody who did not already know it was there.
What we did about it.
- 01
A catalogue that fills itself
Type the plant name. The height, spread, aspect, soil, flowering months and a written description appear, in their voice, ready to check and publish. A full season went live in a morning.
- 02
Stock people can see
What is in the tunnel today, updated from a phone as things sell. The in-stock question mostly stopped being a phone call.
- 03
Found by the plant, not the shop
Nobody searches for a garden centre. They search for what will grow in a shaded, wet, north facing bed, and now there is a page that answers that and sells them four plants.
“The description writer is the thing. It used to be two weeks of evenings and I hated every one of them. I did the whole spring in a morning and went home.”
Have a look yourself
The whole build is live. Walk through it the same way one of their customers would.
