The website
Built by hand,
to a written standard.
Most agencies cannot tell you what makes their work good, because it is a matter of taste on the day. Ours is written down. It has fifty six rules in it, a machine checks nineteen of them on four screen sizes before your site goes live, and a person puts their name to the rest.
Two weeks, and you see it
before you commit to anything.
- 01 Two days
We look before we talk
Before the first call we measure your site, your five nearest competitors and what people around you are searching for. You get that written down as a short document, in English, whether you go ahead or not.
- 02 Five days
We design your homepage
Not a mock-up, not a template with your logo dropped into it. Your actual homepage, with your rooms, your menu, your stock. This is the part you see before you pay anything.
- 03 A day on site
We photograph and write it
A day on site with a camera, and the words written the way you would say them out loud. Stock photography of somebody else’s hotel is the fastest way to look like everybody else.
- 04 A week
We build it by hand
No page builder, no theme, no plugin soup. Every line is written for your site, which is why it loads in under a second on a phone with one bar of signal.
- 05 Automatic
We check it against the standard
Fifty six written rules covering legibility, contrast, tap targets, speed and the patterns that make a site look mass produced. Nineteen of them can be measured, and a machine checks those on four screen sizes before anything goes live. The rest are judgement, and somebody signs them off by name.
- 06 Every night
Then we never stop
It is measured every night while you are closed. Faults are found and fixed before you open. Changes are unlimited for as long as you are with us.
The standard
What the standard actually covers.
Every site we build is measured against the same written specification, and it fails the build if it breaks one of the rules. Not a checklist somebody remembers on a good day. An actual gate that stops the site shipping.
It covers the things that decide whether a website earns its keep: whether a person can read it, whether they can find the phone number, whether it appears at all on a bad connection, and whether it looks like it was made for you or bought by the thousand.
- 56written rules in the standard
- 19a machine can measure, checked on every build
- 37that need judgement, signed off by a person
- 4screen sizes, in both light and dark
Four things we will not be talked out of.
- It has to work on a phone in a field.
- Most of your customers are on a phone, often on bad signal, often outdoors. That is the real device, not the designer’s monitor.
- It has to be readable by someone who is fifty five.
- Body text never goes below eighteen pixels, contrast is measured rather than eyeballed, and nothing important is grey on grey.
- One tap to ring you.
- The single most valuable thing on a small business website is the phone number, and it is astonishing how often it is three taps deep.
- Nothing on it that we cannot defend.
- No stock photography of strangers, no filler about passion and excellence, no counter that animates for no reason.
Send us your web address.
We will look at your site, your competitors and what people near you are searching for, then design your new homepage and show it to you. Free, and yours to look at whether you hire us or not. If your site is doing fine as it is, we will tell you that instead.
